Ok, in my daughters Social Studies class, the teacher asked
everyone a question.
Now, as the majority of you know…I raise my daughters to
choose their own path…Choose their own religion...(Or none at all) and many
other things that will one day make them happier human beings…Just like I would
not choose what college they will one day attend or the husband/wife they will
pair off with.
Personally, being a good human being, with good morals and the
knowledge of how to treat others, doesn’t need to be force-fed through/with
religion (Or indoctrination) of any kind….and you’re not a BAD person because
you are gay….nor are you a bad person if you become a cat lady…You might suck
as a human being…but not because who you love or what your choices in life are…
My daughters also know that because I give them their own
personal rights to choose, does NOT mean they should be disrespectful to others
who aren’t allowed to make choices for themselves… Mom Quote #897349 - Never be the first one to be an
asshole…because most likely….they’ll beat ya to it… ;)
The Social Studies
Question:: If there was one thing/event you could change in history, what would
it be?
Most students made their answers kind of vanilla…and
reasonable….” I make sure that 9/11 never happened.”, “I would change who are
president is…”, “I would talk Abraham Lincoln out of going to the theater that
night.” and so forth…
Barrett was going to talk about 9/11 too until…
One pupil answered…."I would go back to the Garden of Eden
and either convince Adam and Eve NOT to eat the apple……or I would hide the
apple…that way there would be no ‘original sin’ and the world would be a
happier place…you know...without all that sinnin’…. And women having babies
when they aren’t married…They’re going to Hell!”
When the exclamation point was adhered to the pupils’
sentence, Barrett felt a wave of emotions almost swallow her…She was sad,
angry, pissed and mystified by her classmates answer…She began to rewrite her
answer….
This pupil had left the floor WIDE OPEN for Barrett to
answer…
This sort of stung Barrett in a personal way…Her sister, Kaitlyn, was
born while I was not married…..
I asked Barrett how she felt about what the other classmate
had said…"There was NO gray area, Mom! She spoke as if it were a fact. If she
is a “Christian”…then she shouldn’t say that! Who does she think she is??? How
can, what she is being taught about religion, not be classified as mental
abuse? Her parents willingly approved of the utter BS that this chick
believes…..Tootie is NOT going to ANY imaginary burning place…all because you
weren’t married to Michael….That’s like calling her a mistake…I felt like I was
punched in the stomach….! Abby saw my ears turning red…she knew I was mad!”
“Well, BB, what was your answer to the “Stone Thrower”?” I
said….
“Well, first I apologized to my teacher for what I was about
to say….I almost started crying, Mom! I said that MY answer to this question
was going to be about 9/11 too but, I changed it. The one thing I would change
about history is religion! More wars, death, destruction, rapes, pedophilia and
riffs in our society has been the result of one religion or another since the
dawn of time…think of how equal we could’ve been had religion NOT been
involved…!”
I almost wrecked the car…..LOL! “You DID NOT SAY THAT…..Did
you, BB?”
“Yes, Mom, I did! I HAD to! I also said….that I was offended
by what was said because of Tootie…She’s my little sister! That wasn’t nice at
ALL….! That’s judging someone …and there is no justification for
that…NONE….Again, sorry Mr. /Mrs. Teacher…”
………………………"Are you mad, Mom?”….....................
“Nope! Just super proud of
you for standing up for things you believe in...Never be afraid of EVER
standing up…especially when you are yelling in the face of utter stupidity!”
